Motor & Sensory Test SystemsROTOR-ROD™ SystemMotor coordination, balance & learning measurement using Fear of Falling motivation The SDI ROTOR-ROD™ system measures and records motor coordination in both rats and mice using the natural fear of falling motivation. SDI offers three types of rotarod systems – a full size version for measuring rats, the bench top model for measuring mice and a combination unit for rats and mice. All Rotor-Rod models include four animal lanes, programmable speed settings ranging from 0 to 50 rpm and four timers that separately and simultaneously monitor each animal’s latency-to-fall. Compared to other rota rod systems, only SDI’s Rotor-Rod system offers adjustable falling heights up to 48 inches, producing true Fear of Falling motivation. Assessing Motor Function and Motor Learning – How Rotor-Rod works: Up to four animals are placed on the rod within their individual lanes in the Rotor-Rod enclosure. The animal compartments are completely enclosed to prevent the animals from escaping. Seven photobeams are embedded in each of the four lanes of the Rotor-Rod enclosure. When the animal falls from the rotating rod, the photobeams are broken and the Rotor-Rod software records the animal’s latency to fall. When the photobeams in all four lanes have been broken, the rod stops rotating. ROTOR-ROD conveniently stores all details relating to a Session in a Microsoft Access database, which can later be exported to popular stats programs for easier access and calculations. Among the benefits of the integration between Rotor-Rod and the Microsoft Office database system are: One Touch Exporting to Stats Packages, Data Kept Together, Clearly Identified Columns, Powerful Query Functions, Powerful Reporting Functions, and Seamless Integration with MS Excel.
